The CW is introducing a new graphics package for its NASCAR Xfinity Series coverage, featuring a horizontal scoring ticker at the bottom of the screen. This is a significant departure from the traditional vertical pylon used by other networks like Fox and NBC. The change reflects a broader shift within NASCAR's media rights cycle, now encompassing five domestic broadcast partners, including three newcomers.

The decision to use a horizontal format, made in collaboration with NASCAR and Nexstar Media Group, is driven by a belief that it better utilizes modern widescreen televisions. The CW’s graphics team meticulously evaluated 10 designs before settling on a horizontal ticker that seamlessly integrates picture-in-picture functionality, allowing viewers to simultaneously see driver positions and alternate camera angles.

Beyond the real-time race data, a variation of the ticker will present the top five finishing drivers, complete with their images. This visually engaging element enhances the viewing experience. The development of these innovative graphics was a collaborative effort with Two Fresh Creative. The CW secured exclusive broadcast rights for the Xfinity Series through 2031, starting with coverage at Bristol Motor Speedway last fall. This comprehensive coverage includes practice sessions, qualifying, and race broadcasts.

The network’s on-air team comprises play-by-play announcer Adam Alexander, analysts Jamie McMurray and Parker Kligerman, and pit reporters Dillon Welch and Kim Coon. Carla Gebhart hosts the pre-race studio show, “NASCAR Countdown Live.” The CW joins Fox, NBC, TNT Sports, and Prime Video as part of NASCAR’s revamped broadcast lineup. Interestingly, TNT was the last network to utilize a horizontal bottom ticker, adopting it back in 2008.
