The sale of TV sets in Germany rose by 15.4% in Q1 2025 compared to the same period last year, reaching 1.2 million units (Q1 2024: 1.04 million). The figures are reported by German industry associations ZVEI and Deutsche TV-Plattform in cooperation with market research company NIQ in their latest CE-Branchenkompass Q1/2025 market overview.

This growth was mainly driven by replacement purchases following SD switch-off by German public broadcaster ARD on the Astra satellite system (19.2° East) earlier this year. This transition also significantly boosted the sale of set-top boxes which increased by 147% to 422,000 units (Q1 2024: 171,000).

The phasing out of old SD devices in this context led, contrary to the trend of recent years, to increased demand for smaller TV sets. Sales in the segment of devices with a screen size of up to 50 inches rose by 24.6%. The total market covered in the report (video and audio) grew by just under 4% in Q1 2025, reaching €1.48 billion. The video market rose by 9%, while revenues in the audio sector declined.
