Gray Media is providing viewers in eight markets with a significantly enhanced Super Bowl LVII viewing experience. The company will broadcast the game using high dynamic range (HDR) across all of its Fox NextGen TV affiliates. This improves contrast and color quality for viewers.
Several Gray Fox affiliates recently upgraded to support both Dolby Vision and HDR10+ formats. These include WVUE in New Orleans (this year’s Super Bowl host city), WHNS in Greenville-Spartanburg and Asheville, WBRC in Birmingham, KPTV in Portland, and WALA in Mobile. Gray had previously added HDR to KVVU (Las Vegas), WXIX (Cincinnati), and WFLX (West Palm Beach).
“Live sports events are the perfect venue to experience the vivid imagery and immersive audio of NextGen TV,” said Gray’s Chief Operating Officer Sandy Breland. “With these upgrades, millions of fans in our markets can enjoy the highest quality in picture and sound, over-the-air and for free this weekend.”
Beyond HDR, Gray has also introduced GameLoop, a new free NextGen TV gaming channel. GameLoop offers classic games like Pac-Man, Tetris, and Doodle Jump, playable using a remote or mobile phone. It also features Planet Crossword, a collaborative crossword game. The channel is currently available on WANF (Atlanta) and WVUE (New Orleans), with plans for further expansion.
“NextGen TV enables countless advanced features to boost viewer experience,” said Rob Folliard, Gray’s senior vice president and chairperson of PearlTV. “We are excited to offer this new interactive option and will continue to increase NextGen TV offerings and value to our audience.”
