Norway's public broadcaster, NRK, has announced the end of an era with the closure of its long-running teletext service, Tekst TV. Launched on February 2, 1983, the service has faced increasing technical challenges in recent years, leading to several errors.

NRK cited the growing difficulty in maintaining the Tekst TV service and the risk of more significant malfunctions as the primary reasons for its discontinuation. The broadcaster emphasized that all information previously available through Tekst TV is readily accessible on its website.

This decision echoes the shutdown of similar services elsewhere. The BBC, for example, closed its Ceefax service in 2012. However, the move contrasts with the continued operation of SVT Text in neighbouring Sweden, a service that launched even earlier, in 1979.
