Mediaproxy, a leading provider of software-based IP compliance solutions, has announced its official certification by the ATSC Security Authority (A3SA) to offer decryption for NextGen TV broadcasts in the United States. This certification comes as part of Mediaproxy's LogServer compliance monitoring and Monwall multiviewer systems, offering broadcasters comprehensive software-based tools for ATSC 3.0 stream monitoring and analysis for compliance purposes.
This groundbreaking development signifies a significant shift in the broadcasting landscape, eliminating the dependence on specialized hardware devices for compliance monitoring. The ATSC 3.0 standard utilizes robust encryption to enhance the security of content accessed through broadcaster websites, thereby safeguarding viewers. By integrating A3SA security protocols into its LogServer engine, Mediaproxy empowers broadcasters with a cost-effective solution for monitoring both encrypted on-air and off-air signals.
For to-air and hand-off monitoring, on-premises LogServer systems can directly receive the encrypted STLTP (Studio to Transmitter Link Transport Protocol) output from the packager, ensuring confidence in the transmitted signals from the local IP network. In off-air monitoring scenarios, readily available and inexpensive integrated receiver/decoders (IRDs) without decryption capabilities can still output the encrypted IP streams through DASH/ROUTE (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP/Real-time Object delivery over Unidirectional Transport). This enables ATSC 3.0 compliance on IRDs for streaming platforms like HDHomeRun, with LogServer managing the DRM aspects for all channel sources.
Mediaproxy's Monwall hybrid multiviewer, known for its low-latency monitoring of encrypted outgoing and return signals, also incorporates this new ATSC 3.0 security feature. In addition to the features on Monwall and LogServer, Mediaproxy has developed an expanded toolkit for comprehensive IP packet and table analysis of live broadcast streams or PCAP (packet) captures, accessible through user-friendly interfaces.
"Mediaproxy is a long-standing member of the ATSC, and we have hundreds of TV stations in the US that rely on our technology," explains Mediaproxy CEO Erik Otto. "Recognizing this reliance, we saw it as our responsibility to provide not only a comprehensive software-based toolset for ATSC 3.0, but also a seamless way to handle decryption. Mediaproxy has consistently pioneered new compliance and monitoring technologies for nearly 25 years, and this exciting development is another testament to our achievements. We've worked closely with the A3SA over the past 12 months to make this happen, resulting in a simple, software-based, and cost-effective solution for broadcasters offering NextGen TV services."
