The Ariane 5 launch vehicle with two satellites on board successfully launched from the Kourou spaceport in French Guiana on the night of June 2. The Ariane 5 rocket launched the American ViaSat-2 satellite and the French Eutelsat 172B spacecraft into orbit. Both satellites are quite remarkable in their own right: ViaSat-2 is an American satellite that will provide high-speed internet in South, Central, and North America. Its mass is almost twice that of the French one - 6418 kg, its dimensions are 6x3x2 meters. After the start of operation, ViaSat-2 will set a record for throughput - 300 gigabits per second. Eutelsat 172B is a French geostationary telecommunications satellite. It is intended to provide communication services in Asia, Oceania, and the Pacific region. The spacecraft is built on the basis of the new Eurostar-3000EOR (Electric Orbit Raising) space platform by Airbus Defence and Space. This is the company's first satellite with a fully electric propulsion system, without engines that use chemical rocket fuel. This is also the first satellite of this type built in Europe. The Safran/Snecma PPS-5000 propulsion system will be used both for raising the satellite's orbit and for all orbital maneuvers and holding it in the stationary point on the geostationary transfer orbit. The satellite's dimensions in the folded state are 3.7×3×5.4 meters. After reaching orbit, the solar panel span will be 39.3 m. Despite its considerable size, the launch mass of the satellite was only 3551 kg, which allowed it to be launched in a slot for a smaller satellite on the Ariane 5 launch vehicle.
