Due to CBS's coverage of the Farmers Insurance Open, Norah O’Donnell’s final broadcast on the “CBS Evening News” has been moved up. Originally scheduled for January 24, 2025, her last day will now be January 23, 2025, a network spokesperson confirmed to NewscastStudio. O’Donnell has been the anchor since 2019.

In July 2024, CBS announced O’Donnell would step down as anchor in 2025, transitioning to a correspondent role. The network plans to relaunch the “Evening News” on January 27, 2025, with a new ensemble format. This format will feature John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois, with Margaret Brennan anchoring political coverage from Washington, D.C.

As part of this significant change, the broadcast’s production will return to New York City. The decision to move the studio to Washington, D.C., was made when O’Donnell became anchor, as her family resides in the area.
